HEALTH IS WEALTH.....
Common health concerns & what to do
At PrimeTime Pediatrics, we believe an informed parent is an empowered parent. We've compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about common childhood health issues, offering guidance, reassurance, and practical advice to help you navigate your child's well-being with confidence.
Fever is of the utmost importance for parents. It is a natural response of your child's immune system to combat illness. Fever is a good thing and is not harmful; it tells us your child's immune system is responding to an infection. When you give fever-reducing medication, such as Tylenol or Motrin, you can effectively be prolonging your child's illness. These medications are for comfort only and not a treatment.
Vomiting and Diarrhea are other common illnesses. We can advise you on how to handle these conditions easily and effectively.
Cough, Colds, and Congestion are most of the time self limiting and respond to good supportive care. Treatment will vary based on the age of your child and we can provide you with the necessary information to manage these types of illnesses.
When should I call Primetime Pediatrics for illness progression?
Since most simple colds or viral illnesses run a course with good supportive care in 3-4 days, we encourage parents to call us to discuss the course of illness. If there is no improvement or persistence of symptoms by the third or fourth day of an illness, we advise calling for an appointment.
What are the 3 A's of Pediatric Care at Primetime Pediatrics?
We are always available to help with what we call The 3 A's of Pediatric Care: Availability, Accessibility, and Affability. We urge parents to call us before proceeding to either Urgent Care or the local Emergency Departments. We pride ourselves on 24-hour emergency care for our patients.
Should I wait to call if my child has a simple cold?
For simple colds or viral illnesses, supportive care (rest, fluids) is often key. We encourage monitoring your child for 3-4 days. However, always feel free to call PrimeTime Pediatrics to discuss their symptoms and get personalized advice.
